Asharaf - the living light

There is a Malayalee who voyages with the light accompanied by the breath and sighs of the characters-The man who believes that it is the darkness and light in the minds of characters is to be pervded on the stage. He's Mr.Asharaf.A.E.,alias asharafudeen.Keeping an eye on the stage,he is at thrisssoor, when the second itfolk is on the go.

When he got admission as a student of direction,in the School of Drama, his eyes were hooked onto the back-stage of drama. Then, when and how don't know, all his heart and enquiries completely turned to the LIGHTING.He woke up into the late hours of nights, before many a stages, seeking and seeking lighting.Different ways of lighting....Experiments...Even after the fall of a quarter century of theatrical activities,Mr.Asharafka, can be seen sitting before the stages,as if he were an infant, who amazes at the first light of his whole life.
This year Mr.Asharaf won the Fellowship of Central Cultural Department for the study of dramas. The "Traditional Lighting of Drama" is the subject for his study.

Asharaf stresses again that "a dramatist can never forget the traditions. The dramatist must go back to the ages of Oedipus,to direct that famous drama. All the attires and settings are of that period representing good old days.If the matters of direction go like that way,why can't we use the lighting of that time?"That is what he tries.Asharaf is highly interested to seek the possibilities of traditional lighting, amidst the modern methods of direction. The expressions of Kathakali Actor with great emotional struggles, were made more expressive by the tremor of light of Attavilakku. The originality and tradition are lost,in the permanent power-lights."My dream is the harmonious blending of traditional way that the drama demands.
